Who this is for
Smart Board Camera is a teacher tool. There are no student accounts. Only teachers create accounts, sign in, and control the app.
What we collect from teachers
- Account info: your name, email address, and a hashed password.
- Session data: board names, slide content, and device pairing tokens needed to run the classroom display.
- Payment info: if you subscribe, Stripe processes your payment. We store only a Stripe customer ID and subscription status — never card numbers.
Photos and session artifacts
Photos captured through Phone Mode and all session artifacts (slides, drawings, history, AI-generated images) are classroom session data. They are not a permanent archive.
- Ending or deleting a session permanently removes all photos, slides, drawings, and AI-generated images for that session from the server. Files are deleted from disk and records are removed from the database.
- A background cleanup job runs as a safety net for abandoned sessions that never received an explicit end event. It removes unsaved orphaned images after 7 days. This is a failsafe, not a retention window — the normal path is that ending the session wipes everything immediately.
- We do not build a student photo database, a cloud gallery of children, or any long-term store of student images.
- We do not run facial recognition, image classification, or any analysis on captured photos.
"Stays in the room" is a build constraint, not marketing copy. The application is designed so that photos of student work and session artifacts do not persist beyond the session that created them.
No student data
- There are no student accounts — ever.
- We do not collect student names, faces, grades, or any personally identifiable information about children.
- We do not share, sell, or transfer any data to third parties for advertising or profiling.
AI image generation
If you use AI image generation, your prompt is sent to OpenAI using your own API key. Prompts are not stored in the database. Generated images follow the same session lifecycle — they are removed when the session ends. We do not use classroom photos or student work to train AI models. We do not send Phone Mode photos to OpenAI or any AI provider.
Cookies and sessions
We use a session cookie and an optional remember-me cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or analytics services.
Data retention
- Your teacher account exists until you ask us to delete it.
- Ending or deleting a session removes all photos, slides, drawings, history, and AI-generated images for that session.
- The background cleanup job is a safety net only — it removes orphaned images from sessions that were never explicitly ended.
- Realtime sync events are removed within 24 hours.
- Login attempt logs are removed within 24 hours.
Billing
Checkout is teacher-only: your email, a Stripe customer ID, and your Smart Board Camera user ID. No student fields, no student data, no student identifiers.
Security
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Remember-me tokens use split selector/validator and are hashed at rest. All connections require HTTPS. API keys you store are encrypted with AES-256-GCM.
